Grant Applications & Guidelines
Once a year, Portland Women’s Foundation invites applications from community housing and education programs that help women achieve self-sufficiency. The application deadline for 2010 grants is November 2, 2009. Grants will be awarded mid-April 2010.
The Foundation:
- Gives preference to programs where women comprise at least 75% of the people served
- Accepts requests for operating expenses
- Considers proposals for multiple year projects

- Makes grants from $1000 - $10,000
Agencies requesting funds must:
- Be an established nonprofit agency operating within Clackamas, Multnomah or Washington counties
- Have a 501(c)(3) tax exempt status
- Have completed and returned a six-month progress report if funded by the PWF in the past year
The Foundation does NOT fund:
- Services that do not directly benefit women
- Individuals
- Research projects or resource/databanks
- Start-up costs for new agencies
- Childcare
| To apply for a PWF grant, agencies must provide the following information via U.S. Mail postmarked by November 2, 2009. |
- A completed 2010 application form
- Detailed budget for this project for '08/'09 and '09/'10
- Agency's '08/'09 and '09/'10 operating budgets
- Agency's two most recent fiscal year-end financial statements (need not be audited). If 2009/10 fiscal year-end statement is not completed, please send most recent interim statement. Please provide your Agency's 2009/10 fiscal year-end statement upon its completion.
- Copy of the first 2 pages of Agency's most recent Federal 990 tax return
- Proof from the Internal Revenue Service of your 501(c)(3) tax exempt status (Not required if you previously have received a grant from PWF & we already have one on file)
- List of current Agency Board members
The application process begins September 15, 2009, with a deadline of November 2, 2009. If an application fits the guidelines for giving, a team of board members may visit the applicant agency in January or February 2010. The full Board considers each accepted application before disbursing funds in mid-April 2010.

Women’s Technical Assistance Fund:
Current grantees are eligible to apply for valuable technical assistance and skill building to strengthen their organizations in areas such as strategic planning, board development, financial management and organizational development.
The training is offered by Technical Assistance for Community Services (TACS) and jointly funded by the Portland Women’s Foundation (PWF) and the Women’s Care Foundation (WCF). The Fund provides training for both professional and volunteer staff.
Funds are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Each organization is eligible to receive up to $1000 each funding cycle (July-June). During 2009, 16 agencies received $10,855 from this fund.
